This is a fantastic opportunity to join us in our North East Region. 


The successful candidate will be managing a team that deliver our Skills, Information & Support Services (SISS).


You will do this by working in partnership with other operation managers, covering Vision Rehabilitation Specialists (VRS), Canine Assisted Services (CAS), and the Head of Skills, Information & Support Services (SISS) for the region.


Our SISS team consist of Rehabilitation, Habilitation and My Sighted Guide Specialists, and are made up predominately of Vision Rehabilitation Specialists (VRS) delivering services to adults.


The role requires candidates to have strong management skills, who can support a team consisting of trainees and individuals with 20 plus years experience in this field.


While also, delivering high quality, compliant and consistent services throughout the region.


Your skills, knowledge and Leadership ability will enable the team to help people with sight loss live the life they choose by delivering orientation & mobility services and independent living skills, which support Guide Dogs strategic objectives.


Through personalisation, our VRS teams provide specialist holistic assessment of customer needs that will improve their wellbeing.

  • The successful candidate will also be expected to:
  • Work on contracts, with commissioners, local authorities, and educational establishments.
  • Spend 3 days a week in our Newcastle office located in Benton, and have a frequent presence across all functions within the Newcastle office.
  • Travel across the North East region

Candidate profile

To be able to fulfil this role, the skills and experience we are looking for in a potential candidate include:


·       Certified Management qualification such as ILM or equivalent relevant work experience in a management, supervisory or volunteer management role.
·       Demonstrable experience of working in a professional management, supervisory or teaching / training role related to vulnerable people.
·       Experience of handling safeguarding concerns within a service delivery setting. 
·       Knowledge of current legislation, policy and research relating to people with sight loss and/or disability. Up to date with current policies, practice and thinking in the Education and/or Health and Social Care sector.  


·       Project Management qualification (Prince-2 or equivalent)
·       Professional qualification in a related field (e.g. CQSW/DipSW, post graduate, Dip/Cert, BEd/PGCE/QTS, Habilitation/Rehab/GDT/GDMS.)
·       Experience of Rehabilitation practice / Habilitation Quality Standards / working dog practice as applicable (SISS role)
·       Experience of working with dogs (CAS role)
